Project Description

The Würzburger Hofbräu has a rich tradition: The brewery was founded in 1643 by the Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn of Main-Franconia and is thus today the oldest still existing company in Würzburg.

The idea of founding a princely court brewery to supply and appease the men with delicious beer matured in the time of the Thirty Years’ War, when the thirsty soldiers had drunk away almost all wine supplies. In memory of the founder of the brewery, the crown of the prince-bishop still adorns the brewer’s star in the company logo.
